In a bold political move ahead of Guyana’s upcoming General and Regional Elections on September 1,  Regional Vice Chairman of Region Ten, Mark Goring, has thrown his full support behind Azruddin Mohamed, presidential candidate and leader of the recently formed We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) Party. With just under two months until voters head to the polls, Goring issued a public statement calling for urgent change and national unity, while sharply criticising the governing People’s Progressive Party (PPP) for what he described as “unchecked corruption,” institutional abuse, and “systemic disregard for law and order.”

Azruddin Mohamed

“It is deeply unfortunate that the collective opposition and emerging parties have failed to unite in the face of a government that continues to show contempt for its people,” Goring stated in a letter posted on Team Mohamed’s social media page.

“The PPP administration has weaponised state institutions against anyone who refuses to echo its ‘One Guyana’ mantra.”

In a passionate appeal, Goring described the PPP regime as one marked by discrimination, nepotism, cronyism, and bullying, adding that despite this damning record, the party remains in contention for reelection “largely unchallenged.”

The endorsement of Mohamed—a newcomer in presidential politics—marks a significant political development in Region 10, historically known for its strong loyalty to the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR). Goring’s public break from the traditional opposition coalition signals growing disillusionment within its base and a shift toward alternative leadership.

“The candidate I endorse is driven not by power, but by a genuine commitment to uplift our people,” said Goring. “Over the past three years, we’ve seen this commitment in action. This is the only leader capable of uniting Guyana without prejudice or division.”

Goring also outlined a bold vision for national transformation, rooted in justice, equity, and accountability. Among his priorities: a depoliticised police force, independent judiciary, media access for all political voices, secure borders, and basic services such as electricity, clean water, and employment opportunities for all Guyanese.

He further emphasised that Guyana’s vast oil wealth must be used to empower citizens, not trap them into dependency. “The economy must empower citizens, not trap them into dependence on paltry grants in an oil-rich nation,” he said.

His call extended to safeguarding children, demanding stronger protections against abuse and exploitation. He insisted the time has come to move beyond “empty rhetoric and recycled promises” and to embrace a new model of governance rooted in transparency and national interest.

“Together, we will build a nation where every citizen can thrive. Together, we will make Guyana great,” Goring declared.

The endorsement may signal shifting political winds in Region 10 and could pose a challenge not only to the ruling PPP but also to traditional opposition leadership as new voices gain traction heading into the high-stakes September elections.

Endorsement Of Presidential candidate

Azruddin Mohamed leader of the WIN party.

Today, I reaffirm my unwavering commitment to the people of Region Ten, and to every citizen of Guyana. With less than sixty days until the General and Regional Elections, our country stands at a defining crossroad. Political parties are vying not just for power, but for the responsibility of managing our nation’s vast resources.

It is deeply unfortunate that the collective opposition and emerging parties have failed to unite in the face of a government that continues to show contempt for its people. The PPP administration has weaponized state institutions against anyone who refuses to echo its “One Guyana” mantra. Corruption is not only unchecked, it flourishes across ministries and agencies. This regime is defined by discrimination, nepotism, marginalization, cronyism, bullying, injustice, and a systemic disregard for law and order. Yet, despite this record, it remains in contention for reelection, largely unchallenged.

Guyanese citizens are crying out for change. They are weary of empty rhetoric and recycled promises. They demand leadership that works for all, not just the privileged few. We must build a government that lifts every citizen, where progress is shared and opportunity is real.

We envision a Guyana where:

  1. Freedom of expression and association are protected, and all political voices have fair access to state media.
  2. The Guyana Police Force serves the people, not politicians.
  3. The justice system is independent, corruption-free, and truly committed to justice.
  4. Every citizen has access to reliable electricity, clean water, employment opportunities, affordable food, and durable infrastructure.
  5. National interest comes first, with secure borders, regulated immigration, and priority for Guyanese in jobs, housing, and services. All migrants must respect our laws, culture, and language.
  6. The economy empowers citizens, not trap them into dependence on paltry grants in an oil-rich nation.
  7. Our children are protected from every form of abuse, including sexual exploitation.

The candidate I endorse is driven not by power, but by a genuine commitment to uplift our people. Over the past three years, we’ve seen this commitment in action. This is the only leader capable of uniting Guyana without prejudice or division.

Together, we will build a nation where every citizen can thrive. Together, we will make Guyana great.

Mark Goring JP

Regional Vice Chairman
