Guyanese Caution Against Illegal Entry Into the U.S. After Deportations

The Government of Guyana issued a strong warning on Wednesday, advising Guyanese not to attempt entering the United States (U.S) illegally. This announcement follows a formal diplomatic note received from U.S. authorities, emphasising stricter immigration enforcement and legal penalties for those violating American immigration laws.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the warning comes just one day after seven Guyanese nationals were deported from the U.S. The Ministry stated that the U.S. government, under President Donald Trump, has reinstated and expanded several immigration policies, placing a heightened focus on prosecuting individuals who enter or remain in the country unlawfully.

While reaffirming that the U.S. remains open to lawful visitors, the Ministry highlighted that foreign nationals who attempt to enter without proper documentation, overstay their visas, or breach the conditions of their stay, face serious consequences. These may include arrest, prosecution, imprisonment, and heavy fines under U.S. immigration laws.

The Government has therefore encouraged Guyanese to seek legal pathways for travel, work, education, or migration to the U.S. It also strongly advised those currently residing illegally in the country to voluntarily leave.

President Trump has publicly pledged to deport up to one million undocumented migrants annually, accusing many of them of engaging in criminal behavior.
