Dear Editor,

In the present circumstances and developments between Guyana and Venezuela, which have existed for some time now, it is strange that the press and media generally have not informed the Guyanese citizens whether the Guyana ambassador in Venezuela has been called home for consultations. In these circumstances, the ambassador’s calling home is normal.

Another matter on which the public has not been informed is this: regarding the unsolved tragedy of the unfortunate young woman in the Tuschen area, the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Aubrey Norton, the leading constitutional official outside of the government raised a fundamental issue whether the police officer, also a female citizen, seeming to be responsible for an act of misinformation should not also be charged with an offence like public mischief.

That police officer allegedly released a video that can be characterized in that way initially. These are significant matters, and it is very clear that the Guyanese population is being taken for a ride, ignored, and not receiving accountability feedback from government officials.

These issues need to be followed up by the media and responsible agencies.

Yours truly,
Eusi Kwayana
