The tournament began with crucial training, judges, and instructors’ seminars led by the highly respected Shihan Hiroyoshi Okazaki, 9th Dan, Chief Instructor and Chairman of ISKF. These sessions provided valuable knowledge and skill enhancement for all participants.

Guyana’s junior karatekas delivered outstanding results, contributing significantly to the team’s success. Katalina Carter (8-9 girls) demonstrated exceptional skill, earning gold medals in both Kata and Kumite. Arryan Sankar (10-11 girls) matched this feat with double gold, as did Agnes Siju (12-13 girls). Jasmin Dalgetty and Amario Tyrrell (both 12-13 boys) also shone, each securing gold in both Kata and Kumite. David Charles (12-13 boys) earned two silver medals, and Emily Ibbott (12-13 girls) also claimed two silver medals. Additional medals were won by Jevanah Collins, Ethan Goodhart, Trivena Tyrrell, Miah Sampson, Gia McPherson, Kem Chan, Kempton Carter, and Gael McPherson in the junior categories, further solidifying Guyana’s strong performance.

The black belt divisions saw fierce competition, with Guyana’s representatives displaying remarkable talent and determination. Talitha Kissoon (18-21 adult female) secured a bronze in Kata and silver in Kumite, while Kristian Chaves (18-21 adult male) earned a bronze in Kumite. Alex Rodrigues (22-44 adult male) added a bronze in Kumite, and Feonia Yong (22-44 adult female) won a bronze in Kata and silver in Kumite. Rosita Katchay (45-55 female adult seniors) achieved a gold medal in Kumite.

Team events added to the excitement. The junior team of Jevanah Collins, Kem Chan, and Ethan Goodhart captured a gold medal in Team Kata. The team of Trivena Tyrrell, Emily Ibbott, and Javier Collins earned a silver medal in the same event. In a thrilling conclusion to the Team Kumite competition, Guyana defeated Colombia to advance to the final against Argentina. Despite a spirited effort, including a notable victory by Alex Rodrigues against his Argentine opponent, Guyana ultimately secured the silver medal.

Beyond the competitive arena, the Guyanese delegation also enjoyed the opportunity to experience Colombia’s rich culture and scenic beauty through sightseeing tours.

The ISKF-Guyana extends heartfelt gratitude to Shihan Hiroyoshi Okazaki, Sensei Julian Garcia Torres (Country Director of Colombia), Sempai Simonee Torrealba (Tournament Director – Colombia), the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports-Guyana for their support with tax exemptions, and all the dedicated officials, sponsors, and volunteers who contributed to the tournament’s success.

This outstanding achievement of 3rd place overall in the medal count highlights the exceptional talent and dedication of the students and the strength of the International Shotokan Karate Federation – Guyana. ISKF – Guyana is in the National Park at their HQ Studio (Benab), Thomas Lands, Georgetown.
