In a statement issued by Region Ten Member of Parliament (MP) Devin Sears, a representative of Linden, he expressed his deep concern and heartbreak over the incidents, calling for immediate action and transparency in the investigations surrounding both fatalities.

“As a representative of the people and a son of Linden, I am deeply troubled and heartbroken by [these] events,” MP Sears said. “[These] tragedies demand not only our collective mourning but immediate and transparent action.”

The call for justice was echoed by community members, who are seeking answers regarding the deaths of Peters and Johnson. MP Sears emphasised that “justice must not only be done, it must be seen to be done,” and urged the authorities to ensure that the investigations into both incidents are thorough, impartial, and open to public scrutiny.

“We will not accept silence or inaction,” the statement continued. The people of Linden deserve to know the truth, and we will not rest until justice is served, he said

In light of these developments, calls have been made for the Government, the Guyana Police Force, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Human Rights Commission to intervene and address the situation with urgency.

The grief-stricken families of the victims are being offered condolences from the community, as they await answers. MP Sears committed to continuing to advocate for truth and justice on behalf of the victims and the people of Linden.

We stand with the families affected and commit to using every platform available to demand justice and fairness, MP Sears concluded. “Let us remain united, vigilant, and peaceful as we demand the justice our community so rightly deserves.”

Two Days, Two Youths Fatally Shot By Police!!!
Unacceptable!!!

As a representative of the people and a son of Linden, I am deeply troubled and heartbroken by the recent events that have shaken our community. The fatal shooting of Ronaldo Peters and the subsequent death of Wismar resident, “Dan”, during a protest for justice on Tuesday, April 8th, are tragedies that demand not only our collective mourning but immediate and transparent action.

These incidents have left families grieving and an entire community searching for answers. As such, I am calling for full transparency and accountability in all investigations related to the death of Ronaldo Peters and the events that led to the tragic loss of Dan Johnson. The people of Linden deserve to know the truth, and justice must not only be done it must be seen to be done.

Our community has a proud legacy of standing up in the face of injustice, and today is no different. We will not accept silence or inaction. I am therefore urging the relevant authorities to ensure a swift, impartial, and thorough investigation into both incidents. All parties involved must be held accountable under the rule of law, and the processes must be made open to public scrutiny.

At this moment, more than ever, the people of Linden need reassurance that their lives matter, that justice is not selective, and that the rights of every citizen will be upheld, no matter their status. I am calling on the Government, the Guyana Police Force, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Human Rights Commission to intervene and act with urgency.

To the families affected, I offer my sincerest condolences. I stand with you, and I commit to using every platform available to me to advocate for truth, fairness, and justice in your name.

Let us remain united, vigilant, and peaceful as we demand the justice our community so rightly deserves.

Devin L. Sears
Member of Parliament
Region #10
