By Pt. Ubraj Narine- I stand in unwavering solidarity with Melissa Ann Atwell, also known as Melly Mel, who has been unjustly targeted by the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) government for her outspoken activism against corruption. Atwell, a fearless advocate, has been at the forefront of exposing misconduct within the PPP administration, and it is clear that her victimisation is a deliberate attempt to silence dissent.

The actions taken against Atwell reflect a troubling pattern of political suppression, raising concerns about the state of democracy and free speech in Guyana. This is not just about one individual it is about the fundamental rights of all Guyanese citizens to hold their government accountable without fear of retaliation.

One pressing issue that remains unanswered is the nature of the meetings between Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo and former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Pompeo visited Guyana twice, and to this day, the people of Guyana have not been informed about the discussions or any agreements made during these high-level meetings.

Transparency is the bedrock of democracy, and the refusal to disclose the agenda of these talks fuels speculation about secret deals that could have far-reaching consequences for our nation’s sovereignty and resources.

Guyanese citizens deserve to know if there were any agreements made that could potentially undermine our country’s interests or target individuals like Atwell who have been vocal about government accountability.

If the US decides to send Melissa Ann Atwell back to Guyana, we will not sit idly by if the PPP government attempts to persecute her. Any act of intimidation or retaliation against her will be met with strong resistance from all those who believe in justice, democracy, and the right to free expression.

This is not just about Melissa Ann Atwell or any single individual it is about safeguarding the future of our nation. The people of Guyana must unite against any attempts to suppress truth and silence voices that seek to expose corruption.

The struggle for truth and justice continues, and we will not be silenced.
