Police on patrol along the Essequibo Coast intercepted a vessel carrying 75 Venezuelan nationals early Monday morning, authorities reported.

The interception occurred at approximately 6:45am on March 10, 2025, near the Abram Zuil seawall. The group, consisting of 57 adult males, 9 adult females, and 9 children, was traveling in a 45-foot boat powered by two 75 HP Yamaha outboard engines.

Immigration officials were immediately called to the scene and determined that the Venezuelan nationals had failed to present themselves at any official Port of Entry, having travelled via the Atlantic Ocean.

During their brief detention, the group received humanitarian treatment, with authorities providing food and temporary shelter at a local facility. The deportation process moved swiftly, with all 75 individuals being returned to Venezuela on March 11.

Officials provided the group with adequate fuel and other necessary supplies for their return journey.

This incident comes amid ongoing migration challenges in the region, with Venezuelan nationals frequently attempting to enter neighbouring countries due to the continuing economic and political situation in their homeland. Loop News
