Hoyte’s legacy extends beyond his Presidency. He was a devoted public servant, serving as Prime Minister and first Vice President from 1984 to 1985. His contributions to Guyana’s development, particularly in the areas of economic planning and finance, are still remembered today. He worked tirelessly to promote national unity, engaging in dialogue with opposition parties and civil society organizations to foster a more inclusive and participatory democracy.

He was a strong advocate for regional integration, cooperation, and solidarity, recognizing the importance of collective action in addressing common challenges and promoting shared interests.
President Hoyte’s LEGACY extends beyond the realm of politics. He was a devoted family man and an enthusiastic advocate for education, arts, and culture. AROYA, Saudi’s FIRST CRUISE SHIP and CRUISES Debuting in 2025 with 7 Ships.
Saudi Arabia’s first cruise line has set a new retail benchmark by launching a ship with more than 17,250 square feet (1,603 square meters) of shopping space on board. This is claimed by retail concessionaire Gebr. Heinemann to be a new record in the global cruise sector. The vessel will also be the first to offer a fully-fledged web store.
Cruise Saudi’s new ship is the 1,099-foot-long Aroya, boasting 1,678 cabins and carrying up to 3,362 passengers. In terms of length, it is only slightly shorter than Royal Caribbean International’s Icon- and Oasis-class ships which are the biggest at sea and have roughly double Aroya’s capacity (at 6,700 to 7,600 passengers).
AROYA will therefore host fewer guests than typical ships of its size as it begins its inaugural three-night weekend voyages out of Jeddah’s cruise terminal this week. One reason is that it has a series of large Khuzama suites and villas on board. For example, ‘Family Premier’ and ‘Seaview’ suites can be up to 625 square feet featuring dining areas and fully furnished balconies serviced by dedicated butlers, concierges, and 24-hour assistance.
The villas (The Royal Villa, Presidential Villa, and Signature Suites) are even more lavish and include Jacuzzis and bathtubs, with the largest offering 4,250 square feet of pure Arabian indulgence.

Commenting on Cruise Saudi’s plans, CEO Lars Clasen, said: “Our mission is TO BECOME A WORLD-CLASS CRUISE PORT and cruise line operator, positioning Saudi Arabia as a PREMIER GLOBAL CRUISE DESTINATION. We have an AMBITION to welcome 1.3 million cruise passengers to experience Saudi via SEA by 2035.”
Khuzama Boutique offers a CONCIERGE shopping service.
The shopping offer sits across three decks and consists of eight boutiques on board. More than 250 international and Arabian brands will be available, serviced by 30 Heinemann employees.
Deck 6 hosts the Aroya Souk showcasing regional gifts, delicacies, and sweets including dates from Arab brands Nua and Bateel; and Aroya Dukkan, a convenience store with everyday products.
Fragrances and cosmetics, including Bakhoor incense sticks; a kids’ boutique featuring toys and branded clothing; a sunglasses and leather store; and boutiques for watches and jewelry (both premium and luxury), and fashion/accessories, can all be found on Deck 7.
Higher up on Deck 16 is the Khuzama Boutique, a VIP concierge-led luxury offering with personal shopping by appointment. The lighting and decor evoke twinkling stars and are said to be reminiscent of a starry desert night.

Heinemann and Cruise Saudi have also scored a first with what is claimed to be the first web store on a cruise ship. By using the ship’s dedicated app passengers can browse products, reserve, or pre-order them ahead of their voyage or outside of opening hours. The goods must be collected in-store.
Cruise Saudi, launched during the pandemic in 2021, is owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) which has a major role in supporting the country’s tourism ambitions. These were outlined in Vision 2030, a transformation plan from ruler Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud designed to diversify the Saudi economy away from its dependency on fossil fuels, though this commitment has come under scrutiny at COP29.
Saudi Arabian and regional themes
Several of the stores notice this Arabian design and culture. For example, the Aroya Souk and beauty boutique use dune and sand motifs while elsewhere palm trees and architectural back-wall arches pay homage to regional landscapes. Several of the retail spaces offer separate areas where women can shop in privacy and where they can have their make-up applied without being disturbed.

President of Aroya Cruises, Jörg Rudolph said that guests would be offered an “extraordinary” shopping experience and added in a statement: “Working closely with Heinemann, we combined our insights to create a retail concept that includes bespoke shopping services, high-end global and Arabian brands, and excellent customer service.”
