Setting record straight on my relationship with the Mohameds

Dear Editor,

I wish to set the record straight regarding recent claims and insinuations in the Guyana Chronicle’s article published on March 8, 2025, that make mention of my name.

I have never been paid by the Mohamed’s family, nor have I ever solicited or accepted any favours or financial assistance from them. While I acknowledge my friendship with Azruddin Mohamed, this relationship has never been transactional, and my integrity remains intact.

Yes, I have accompanied Azruddin Mohamed on a few occasions during his humanitarian outreaches, but this was solely in the spirit of assisting my fellow Guyanese brothers and sisters. The fact that the Mohamed’s have been sanctioned does not dictate whom I can associate with. Unlike some politicians who engage with them behind closed doors, I have no reason to hide. I have always been transparent with the public, and I will continue to stand by my principles.

Friendship is not dictated by political or external pressures, and I will not distance myself from the Mohameds out of fear or speculation. My conscience is clear, and I remain committed to truth and fairness in all my engagements.

Yours truly,
Pt.Ubraj Narine, JP, COA
Former Staff Sgt.(GDF), Mayor
City of Georgetown
