“No Force on Earth Can Stop an Idea Whose Time Has Come”–On Guyana’s 55th Republic Day, the People’s Unity Is Toppling Decades of PPP Greed, Marginalization, and Extrajudicial Violence

To the resilient people of Guyana,

As we mark 55 years of republichood, we stand at a crossroads between the shadows of oppression and the dawning light of hope. For too long, many of you have endured the heavy hand of a government that swore to serve you but chose instead to exploit, divide, and silence. The PPP’s reign has been stained by corruption, abuse of power, and the systematic marginalization of African Guyanese communities, through firings, extrajudicial killings, and the deliberate undermining of your hard-earned successes. But hear this truth today, their time is ending.

Gas lines -a study in leadership failure, mixed priorities

History teaches us that no tyranny lasts forever. Colonialism fell. Dictatorships crumbled. Apartheid was dismantled. Why? Because humanity’s thirst for justice cannot be quenched by fear or force. The PPP’s grip on Guyana, built on division, greed, and lies, is no exception. Their corruption is not a sign of strength but a desperate scramble to delay the inevitable. The idea of a united, equitable Guyana, where every citizen thrives regardless of race, class, or creed is an idea whose time has come.

When they fired you for speaking truth, you found new ways to rise. When they tried to erase your contributions, you built legacies anyway. When they stoked ethnic tensions, you chose solidarity in quiet acts of courage. Your resilience is the fuel for change. This government underestimates you, but they forget; Guyana’s heartbeat is not in its halls of power. It is in the villages where farmers till the soil, in the markets where mothers trade, in the classrooms where children dare to dream.

The PPP survives by dividing us, pitting coast against hinterland, Indo-Guyanese against Afro-Guyanese, poor against poorer. But their tactics grow weaker by the day. Across this nation, a coalition of conscience is rising. Young professionals, grassroots organizers, elders, and workers are bridging old divides. Together, you are proving that Guyana’s strength lies not in its oil or gold but in its people.

Every protest ignored, every voice silenced, every life stolen has only amplified the call for justice. The world watches as Guyana’s corruption is exposed. International allies, diaspora voices, and local champions are uniting to demand accountability. Change may not come tomorrow, but it will come, because ideas rooted in justice cannot be buried.

To those weary from the struggle; Rest, but do not quit. To the fearful; Courage is contagious, join hands with your neighbor. To the hopeful; Your light outshines the darkness.

This republic was born from the fight for freedom. Its future will be reclaimed the same way. The PPP’s corruption is a chapter, not the conclusion. Ahead lies a Guyana where leaders serve, institutions protect, and opportunities flourish for all.

Victor Hugo’s words ring true; “No force on earth can stop an idea whose time has come.” Guyana’s time, your time, is near. Stand firm. Work wisely. Keep faith.

Together, we rise for a Guyana that honors all its people.
