Dear Editor,

I write to extend congratulations to the Senior Minister responsible for Finance for the clarity, and detail, regarding the expenditure of funds received under LCDS 2009 and LCDS 2030.
The Minister, in his 2025 Budget presentation, shared the following projects, and expenditures, with the nation:
a) Construction of several high level discharge drainage systems similar to the Hope Canal, in Regions 3, 5, and 6 at a total cost of $23 billion.
b) Rehabilitation of over 40 sluices and drainage structures, and purchasing of equipment to maintain these, at a total cost of $9.3 billion.
c) Installation of 33 MW of solar power in Berbice, Essequibo, and Linden, at an estimated cost of $15.1 billion.
Editor, it was good to see such transparency regarding the use of LCDS funds.  I am overjoyed that these funds were not “Balkanised”.  The question that naturally arises, is why are the NRF funds treated differently when the law (Section 16:2 of the NRF Act) demands similar treatment?
Someone needs to tell the Minister that his “slip is showing”
Yours truly,
Terrence Campbell
