WTCG to host Conference in Guyana on domestic and int’l banking

The World Trade Center Georgetown (WTCG) will convene a conference on Tuesday, November 26th, 2024 at the Exhibition Centre, Pegasus Suites and Corporate Centre which will address key issues in domestic and international banking.

The conference, themed ‘Banking Made Easier’ is sponsored by Demerara Bank Limited (DBL), and comes at a time of transformational developments in global business, technological advancements in banking operations, enhanced regulatory safeguards and the growing need for easier access to financing for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Dr. Ashni Singh, Senior Minister with responsibility for Finance, office of the President, will officially open the conference. Other speakers at the daylong event include:

  • Robin van Puyenbroek, Executive Director of Business Development, World Trade Centers Association, and Co-Chair of the US EXIM Bank’s Advisory Council on Small Business
  • Gobind Ganga, Governor of the Central Bank of Guyana
  • Komal Samaroo, Chairman of Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL)
  • Dowlat Parbhu, Chief Executive Officer, Demerara Bank Limited (DBL)

The conference will bring together industry leaders to discuss actionable strategies and cutting-edge technologies shaping the future of banking in Guyana while enhancing its relationship with the global banking sector.

Key issues on the agenda include:

  • Access to trade and business financing
  • Banking regulations & the anti-money laundering landscape in Guyana
  • Correspondent banking
  • Banking instruments for diaspora communities
  • Enhancements in international payment systems and money transfers
  • Demerara Bank’s new technological initiatives to improve accessibility and efficiency:

o   Lending

o   Deposit Accounts

o   Online banking

o   Visa products

o   International Payment Instruments

o   Digital Banking targeting the diaspora
