Hailing from No. 28 Village on the West Coast of Berbice, Shevani Samuels grew up in the countryside. She attended Latchmansingh Primary School and earned a spot at President’s College after excelling at the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) Exams. Her academic journey led her to the Guyana School of Agriculture, where she earned a Diploma in Animal Health and Veterinary Public Health, and later, a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Management from the University of Guyana. Shevani is married and a proud mother of two, whom she considers her greatest achievements.
Though her academic background is strong, Shevani never anticipated that she would venture into the beauty industry. Yet, Everything Nails by Shevani became one of her most cherished accomplishments. She explains, “Even though I was more academically inclined, my business is something I never dreamed I’d be doing, but I absolutely love it!”
Her passion for nail art stems from her love for drawing and creativity. In her free time, Shevani enjoys sketching and experimenting with different types of designs, which she then incorporates into her nail art business.

Shevani’s Entrepreneurial Journey
During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, while spending time at home, Shevani started experimenting with nail designs on herself, frequently changing her nail colors. Eventually, she practiced on her sisters and

coworkers. Her first clients came unexpectedly—at a wake house, where she set up her tools and got to work while the event unfolded. Determined to follow her passion, Shevani continued honing her skills.
She initially set up a mini workstation at her parents’ home and offered house-call services. With the support and approval of her parents, she later transformed their garage into a home-based salon, where she currently operates.
Throughout her journey, her husband and family have been her biggest supporters.
Overcoming Challenges
One of the main challenges Shevani faced was gaining recognition and marketing her services. Being quiet and reserved, she feared that her business wouldn’t gain attention. However, she remained steadfast in her faith.
“I continued to trust in God because I know with Him, all things are possible. I also kept practicing to perfect my craft. I’m not where I want to be yet, but I’ll keep striving to get there.”
Shevani encourages young people to pursue their passions without hesitation: “If there’s something you love and have been thinking about doing, just do it. Don’t doubt yourself or your abilities, and don’t let others discourage you. Don’t worry about how many people are already doing it. Pray, let God guide you, and start somewhere.”
