By Mark DaCosta- More than a week has passed since the abduction of 28-year-old Joshua David, fondly known as ‘Bricks’ among his friends, but his family remains resolute in their belief that he will return safely. David was snatched on the evening of September 26 outside a popular restaurant on Main Street, Georgetown, where he had gone to buy food. The kidnapping has shaken his family, friends, and the wider community, spurring calls for intensified efforts to bring him home.

Six men have been named as suspects in the abduction: Alpha Poole, Osafo Peters, Aaron Alleyne (also called ‘Cats’), Wayne Barker, Dwayne Griffith, and Damien Barlow. Friday morning they turned themselves into the police.  Despite police operations in Buxton and Annandale last weekend, three days of searching in the backlands yielded no significant leads.

David’s family, however, has publicly expressed gratitude for the police’s ongoing investigation, but they also believe that higher authorities should step in to expedite the process. “The police are doing a great job… but something better needs to be done,” said David’s wife, Amanda Connell, who has been living through a nightmare since her husband’s disappearance. The family is calling for swift intervention to ensure that David is found soon.

On Thursday night, a candlelight vigil was held outside the Main Street restaurant where the abduction took place, as family members, friends, and concerned citizens gathered to pray for his safe return. About 70 people attended the vigil, holding placards with emotional pleas, including “Return our loved one Joshua David” and “Justice for Joseph David.” The sombre event was filled with grief, as tears flowed from many attendees, including David’s wife and mother.

In speaking with the media, Connell described her husband as a loving and kind-hearted individual. “Joshua is not the type of person people are trying to stain him as,” she said, recalling how the two had planned their future together. She revealed that David had once received threats but had dismissed them. Now, those memories haunt her as she anxiously waits for news about his whereabouts.

“He would sit with me and say, ‘Manda, everything is going to be okay,’” Connell recounted. “We had big plans together.” Fighting back tears, she urged anyone with information to come forward and help end the agony the family is enduring. “Joshua is a nice person and he doesn’t deserve this,” she added.

The investigation is still active, and the police continue to follow all possible leads. However, with each passing day, the urgency increases, and public pressure on the authorities mounts. While no significant breakthroughs have been reported since the weekend search efforts, David’s family remains hopeful that a resolution is near.

This case has deeply affected not only David’s family but also the wider Georgetown community, where abductions are rare but not unheard of. Many residents have expressed fear and concern over the kidnapping, with some questioning the safety of public spaces in the heart of the capital.

Joshua David’s abduction highlights the growing need for more robust security measures across our nation, particularly in areas frequented by citizens in the evenings. The public is now anxiously awaiting updates on the investigation, praying that the young man will be found safe and that those responsible for his disappearance are brought to justice.

Police have assured the public that they are doing everything in their power to locate David, with daily updates being provided to his family. The authorities are also urging anyone with information about the case to come forward and assist with the investigation.

As the search continues, David’s family remains hopeful. They have one message for the nation: “Please help us bring Joshua home.”
