Guyanese singer Shaima Muna today pleads guilty to marijuana charges

The Guyana Police Force in a statement said Shaima Muna, a 27-year-old female Guyanese radio host and singer from  Chàrlestown, Georgetown, was nabbed earlier today (Friday) by Police with 14,515 grams of Cannabis at a roadblock at Weldaad, West Coast Berbice. She was later charged with  Possession of Narcotics for the Purpose of Trafficking.

Earlier today charge was laid against her under Section 5(1)(a)(i) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act Chapter 10:10.  Muna appeared at Weldaad Magistrate’s Court this morning (Friday, September 20th, 2024) before Magistrate R. Mohabir, where the charge was read to her.

She pleaded guilty and was remanded to prison until October 4th 2024 for the probation report.

The radio personality was reportedly nabbed at around 5:47 hrs today during a  ‘Stop and Search’ operation conducted on Weldaad public road, West Coast Berbice, by ranks from Weldaad Police Station.

During the operation, a motor car bearing registration number PAB 6190, travelling towards Georgetown, was stopped. The nervous disposition of the driver (and only occupant of the vehicle), who was later learnt to be Shaima Muna, a resident of Chàrlestown Georgetown, along with a ‘high scent’ synonymous with Marijuana emanating from the car, prompted the Police to search the vehicle.
The police said a search of the trunk of the motor car revealed one red and one blue travelling bag containing parcels of marijuana wrapped with transparent plastic. When weighed, the cannabis amounted to a total of 14kg 515 grams.
Shaima Muna was informed of the offence, arrested, and cautioned. She admitted to owning the narcotics and claimed that her mother was in the hospital, and she decided to take a chance to assist her with her medical bills.
