According to police reports, the theft took place after a truck carrying supplies for Brian Tiwari’s mining operation at Farback Backdam overturned on a trail.

The truck, was transporting “sixteen drums of Diesel valued at $800,000, a quantity of groceries worth $150,000, and a Toolkit valued at $80,000.”

The driver and porter, both injured in the accident, were taken to Bartica Regional Hospital for treatment, leaving the cargo unattended.

When Tiwari’s supervisor, Shawn Wilson, arrived at the scene later that morning, he discovered that a significant portion of the goods was missing.

“Nine drums of diesel valued at $450,000, groceries worth $150,000 and the $80,000 toolkit were missing,” stated the police report. The total value of the stolen items was estimated at $680,000 in Guyana currency.

Acting on information received, police conducted a search of the suspect’s business premises at Takatu Landing. During the search, officers discovered six drums of diesel on the property. When confronted with the evidence, the businessman reportedly admitted to the offence.

Authorities have indicated that other unknown accomplices may be involved in the theft, and the investigation is ongoing. (Caribbean Loop)
