Michelle Ann Joseph- The Care Givers Great Movement Organisation, based in Agricola Village, is dedicated to the well-being of Agricola and neighboring villages, warmly embracing individuals of all age groups, including young adults.

The Organisation’s annual calendar begins in March with a delightful outing to Splashmin. Seniors’ Recognition Day is observed on Caricom Day.

On the 1st of July, 2024, Seniors’ Recognition Day was celebrated. The event began with a prayer, and the seniors were welcomed by Pathfinders Utania Little and Ezekiel Little, who recited a poem. The program and event proceedings were chaired by Geneve Lynch and Timothy Blair. Pastor Troy Wishart delivered a short sermon from Psalm 8.

The occasion was brimming with diverse activities, including communal meals, games, song recitals, and music.

Typically, a procession through the streets of the village is part of the day’s activities, including a special tribute from an esteemed guest and a military salute from military personnel. Unfortunately, this year there was no procession. Organization Chairwoman Ms. Ingrid Cadle informed Village Voice News that the Guyana Defence Force did not respond to her letters requesting ten soldiers to participate in the event.

Nevertheless, the seniors were entertained, their faces lit up with joy, enjoying the company of friends and neighbors. Refreshments, meals, and hampers contributed to a sense of contentment in the air.

Ms. Ingrid Cadle, the dedicated chairwoman of the organization, highlighted that these events and the day-to-day functioning of the organization are made possible through the generous support of numerous sponsors.

She extends heartfelt gratitude to sponsors such as John Fernandes Ltd, The Flour Mill, Colours Boutique, Banks DIH LTD, the Ministry of Human Services, among others.

It’s imperative to acknowledge that the organization owes its existence to Ms. Cadle and its members. All of these activities and events take place at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, nestled in Agricola.

Through acts of benevolence, sharing, and spreading love, this organization continues to strengthen, striving to fulfill the needs of senior citizens in small yet profoundly meaningful ways.

Standing as a testament to the spirit of community, the Care Givers Great Movement Organization remains a steadfast presence in Agricola Village. In the words of Mother Theresa, “Never worry about numbers. Help one person at a time and always start with the person next to you.”
