Outrage in Linden: PPP Activist Colin Aaron Accused of Attempted Assault on Councilor Vanessa Kissoon During Live Broadcast

Linden, May 27, 2024 – A disturbing incident occurred in the Central Mackenzie area of Linden when PPP activist Colin Aaron, an employee of the Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture, allegedly rushed to attack  councillor Vanessa Kissoon during a Facebook live session.

Councillors Kissoon and Critchlow were engaged in a live broadcast, aimed at exposing the inadequacies of a government-led cleanup project, when they were reportedly confronted by Aaron. Eyewitnesses claim that Aaron launched a verbal attack on Kissoon to which she asked for him to repeat, which he did and to which she subsequently responded in kind.  Her response motivated Aaron to rush up to Kissoon and launch a near-physical assault.  Luckily one of the workers intervened and held him back.  The attack caused immediate concern and outrage among the community members and viewers of the live broadcast.

The incident has been widely condemned by local leaders and residents, who view it as a breach of professional conduct and an unacceptable act of aggression towards a female political figure. “This must be seen as an attack on the principles of dignity and respect for our women, which our community holds dear,” stated Mayor Sharma Raheem Solomon, in response to the event.

The confrontation highlights ongoing concerns about the treatment of women in politics, by members of the PPP political party.  It should be recalled that Minister Kwame Mckoy was accused of assaulting an opposition parliamentarian and a female member of the public. Former Minister Nigel Dharmlall and member of the PPP Executive was also accused of two sexual assault charges within the past two years.  Today they all continue to enjoy the protection of the PPP government.

This incident has prompted calls for stronger measures to protect women in politics from such abuses and to ensure that all political figures can perform their duties without fear of intimidation or attack. Community members and fellow councillors have rallied in support of Councillors Kissoon and Critchlow, reaffirming their commitment to stand together against abuse and intimidation in all its forms.
