Fmr Police Lance Cpl DeNobrega Freed of Murder Charge in Quindon Bacchus Shooting

Below is a statment by Geeta Chandan-Edmond, At
torney -at-Law, APNU+AFC Member of Parliament

STATEMENT ON THE TRAGIC DEATHS OF POLICE OFFICER, ANNETTE ABEL AND THE CRITICAL INJURY TO INSPECTOR CASTELLO

No amount of words can adequately convey the sadness that has befallen us upon learning of the tragic accident on Thursday night at Beterverwagting Public Road on the East Coast.

This unfortunate development has claimed the life of Police Officer Annettte Abel and has critically injured Inspector Castello.  My thoughts and prayers are with the families of these police officers and I hereby offer my heartfelt commiserations. I expect the Guyana Police Force to conduct speedy investigations and prosecute the matter with the full force of the law.  This is another ominous indication of the lack of safety on our roadways.

This is another reminder that there is an immediate need to enforce all provisions of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act. Additionally there is the need for enforcement of instructions on the removal of flashing lights on non-emergency vehicles. The government must be commended for its decision to instruct the removal of ‘policia’ from all vehicles but there must be enforcement.
