Police are investigating an alleged Robbery Under Arms (gun) committed on Wange Wi, a 32-year-old Chinese businessman of Diamond Public Road, East Bank Demerara which occurred on July 22, 2023 at about 02:30 hrs.
The businessman was allegedly robbed $6,000,000 at the mentioned address by three male suspects, two of whom were wearing ski masks to cover their faces and were each armed with handguns.
Investigations disclosed that the victim resides in the upper flat of a three-storey concrete building situated West (and facing East of the Diamond Public Road, East Bank Demerara).
The second flat is a storage room while the lower flat is a hardware store. There is a shutter on the lower flat which faces East and gives access to customers with an inner staircase that leads from the lower flat to the upper flat.
According to the victim, he is occupying a bedroom in the upper flat with his 31-year-old wife.
The victim further alleged that on July 21, 2023 at about 20:00hrs, he closed up his business place, checked off his monies and it amounted to the sum of $6,000,000. He took same into his room and secured it in a black haversack inside his room.
The victim went on to state that on July 22, 2023 at about 02:00hrs, he was aroused by the sound of someone shouting ‘where is the money’. The businessman said he was confronted by the three suspects who held him and his wife at gunpoint, tied their hands behind their backs, tied their feet together, ransacked the room and removed the cash which was inside the black haversack. They then escaped.
The suspects gained entry by climbing into the northern roof from the northern building and cutting a hole in the roof (zinc) the ceiling which is made of sheet rack and jumping into the open area of the upper flat, where entry was gained.
Two sets of latent fingerprints were lifted from the DVR which the suspects removed, but forgot to take with them, instead leaving it behind.
The victim claimed that he managed to free himself and wife and reported the matter to the Police.
Investigations are ongoing.
