Dear Editor,

I have read Minister Priya Manickchand’’s statement in response to allegation Minister Nigel Dharamlall raped of a minor. However, while the minister has stated that Ministry of Education will provide the necessary support to the victim, what is concerning to me is that the minister FAILED on the following:

  1. Calling on her colleague, Mr. Nigel Dharamlall to RESIGN, allowing for an impartial investigation.
  2. Calling on Mr. Ifraan Ali to immediately demand Mr. Dharamlall’s resignation and advise the Commissioner of Police (ag) to commence investigations, with a timeline given.
  3. Calling on ALL her female colleagues in Government and National Assembly to STAND together and demand justice for the victim.
  4. Where is Dr. Vindy Persaud in all this? Her Ministry should play a pivotal role in this matter.

Minister Manickchand would recall the many alleged wrongdoings by her colleague and nothing came out of it.

Priya would recall the abuse suffered by Ms. Varshnie Singh-Jagdeo by Mr. Bharrat Jagdeo and nothing came out of it. Oh yes, she was a sitting Minister at that time.

Priya would recall what Dr. Bheri Ramsarran said to the young woman…”slapped and stripped.”

Priya would recall the abuses endured by my female colleagues on the Opposition benches by Mr. Nigel Dharamlall and Mr. Kwame McKoy. Oh! You sat there speechless.

Priya, like me is a woman, mother and Leader and these WRONGS involving our young girls, teenage girls and women should not be allowed.

Priya, it is NOT too late for you to add your voice with the many other voices, calling on Mr. Dharamlall to do the honourable and decent thing, RESIGN and do so NOW!!!!!

Where is Dr. Vindy Persaud in all this? Her Ministry should play a pivotal role in this matter.

Let justice prevail!!!!

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Yours truly,

Annette N. Ferguson MP
