In a passionate speech last night, PNC candidate Sharma Solomon hosted a road-side meeting and rally that electrified the streets of Linden/Kwakwani. The event, which saw a motorcade of 200 cars winding through the town, culmanated at Four Point where an enthusiastic crowd gathered to hear Solomon’s impassioned speech.
Addressing the audience, Solomon spoke about the pressing issues facing the people of Linden, choosing to steer away from typical political rhetoric. He expressed his concern over the challenges caused by unemployment and the lack of opportunities for the region’s residents. Despite Guyana’s booming oil and gas industry, Solomon emphasized that Linden continues to struggle with the highest unemployment rate in the country.
“Instead of addressing the fundamental issues plaguing the people of Linden, our government is turning a blind eye,” Solomon remarked. He urged the crowd to reject the current administration’s claims of progress, arguing that promises of part-time jobs and security were merely political tactics.
Drawing attention to the stark contrast between Linden’s untapped potential and its present condition, Solomon took the opportunity to remind the audience of the failures of previous governments. He specifically mentioned the multimillion-dollar synthetic track project, which regrettably fell victim to political obstacles and constrained funding during the previous administration’s time in power.
Furthermore, Solomon emphasized the challenges faced by the residents living along the Bamia-Linden Highway, particularly in providing education for their children. He shared the struggles of indigenous families who have to contend with limited access to schools and the financial burden of transportation.
“We cannot afford to send our children to school,” Solomon quoted a concerned parent. “Our hard-earned money goes towards transportation, leaving little for food or education. It’s a reality in our trillion-dollar economy.”
The road-side meeting not only provided an opportunity for Solomon to connect with the community but also saw opposition leader Aubrey Norton joining forces to rally support for local candidates. Norton, who previously served in Linden for 23 years, expressed his commitment to furthering development in the region.
As the local government elections approach, Solomon’s energetic rally in Linden/Kwakwani has reignited the spirit of the PNC party and garnered support from passionate residents. The event served as a platform to voice the concerns of the people and rally for change. The enthusiasm displayed by Solomon and his supporters signals a desire for a brighter future in Linden—one that addresses the pressing issues and fosters progress for all.
