Four men, Avinash Mahabal, Dhanraj Ramlochan, Suruj Ramlochan and Lakeram Ramlochan who are accused of unlawful wounding were all arrested on May 31, 2022 and later charged with the offence.
They appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Alisha George where the charge was read to them respectively and they all pleaded not guilty. Bail was granted in the sum of $150,000 and the matter was adjourned to August 8th, 2023 for statements and fixture.
Enquiries disclosed that on the above mentioned date the victim and a colleague were at the 592 Bar when he was attacked by the four accused who began pelting him with bricks. Thereafter one of the four approached him and dealt him a stab to his right shoulder and cut him on his right hand while another rushed towards him with a cutlass and dealt him a chop to the back of his neck. The fourth one then collected the said cutlass and dealt the victim another chop to the said right hand causing him to receive injuries.
The victim managed to run away and went to stand on the road in front of the bar and while there he saw the suspects beating his colleague for about two minutes before making good their escape. With the assistance of his sister he was taken to Georgetown Public Hospital where he was admitted as a patient in a stable condition.
