Bangladesh “A” vs West Indies “A”
Day 4; First “Test”
Venue:
Sylet International Cricket Stadium
Result: Match drawn
Scorecard: https://www.tigercricket.com.bd/live-score/west-indies-a-tour-of-bangladesh-2023

Fast bowler Jair McAllister put in a lion-hearted bowling effort, but West Indies “A” had to settle for a draw against Bangladesh “A” in the first “Test” on Friday. On another day affected by rain, only 49.1 overs were possible, as Bangladesh reached 187-7 in their second innings. West Indies dominated the match, scoring 427-7 declared and they dismissed the home time for 264 before enforcing the follow-on.

McAllister took career-best 5-60 in the first innings and followed up with 2-48 in the second effort to be named the Player-of-the-Match.

“With all the rain around, it took a lot of time out of the game, and it did not allow us to get the result we wanted. “But it was a good pitch, and a good contest between the two teams,” West Indies captain Joshua Da Silva said.

We had a really good performance from Jair McAllister. He is still fairly new to the first-class scene, so to see him bowl the way that he did, and with the aggression that he did, it really goes to show the fast bowling depth. Good pace and aggression is all we could ask from him, and he did fantastic to get seven wickets.”

Da Silva added: “In the remaining matches, we are looking to play the same brand of cricket that we played in this match. We did a good job with the bat, but there are still a few things we can touch on, and try and play the best cricket that we can. We came here to play to win, so the guys are looking forward to the remaining two.”

Earlier, the opening bowlers of Akeem Jordan and Raymon Reifer removed Zakir Khan and Saif Hassan respectively, in the first half-hour, Shadman Islam shared 66 for the third wicket with Mahmudul Hasan Joy to fight back for the home team.

Five wickets – two apiece to left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie (2-13) and McAllister – had Bangladesh “A” in trouble on 132-7 before Rishad Hossain (20 not out), joined Jaker Ali, (36 not out) , and put on 55 for the eighth wicket.

The second “Test” will be played at Sylhet International Stadium 2, starting on Tuesday. First ball is 10am (12 midnight Eastern Caribbean/11pm Monday Jamaica).
