Kessee Edwards, a construction worker who was recently caught in a viral video assaulting a traffic officer, has been remanded to prison following his appearance at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court on Monday. The 30-year-old from Friendship East Coast Demerara was hit with ten charges, including assault with intent to prevent lawful apprehension, abusive language, disorderly behavior, dangerous driving, leaving a motor vehicle in a dangerous position, unlicensed motor vehicle, uncertified motor vehicle, failing to comply with police direction, prohibition of tinted glass, and failure to wear a seat belt.

Despite pleading not guilty to the charges, Edwards has been remanded to prison until May 17. The incident occurred when Police Constable Harlequin and another officer were carrying out traffic enforcement duties and intercepted a heavily tinted vehicle. The driver, Kessee Edwards, reportedly refused to go to the police station for a vehicular inspection and drove off at high speed, running over Constable Harlequin’s right foot in the process. The officer chased after Edwards and intercepted him at the Turkeyen access road.

According to the police report, Edwards exited his vehicle and approached Constable Harlequin, hurling expletives at the officer. The situation escalated when Edwards bit Constable Harlequin on his left ear and allegedly attacked him with another man. The incident drew public attention, and former cop Eustace Abrams, known as Robocop, confronted the assailants. Edwards was subsequently arrested and taken into custody pending investigation, while the police continue to search for the other assailant.
