Massy Guyana has donated a container of essential food and household supplies to support humanitarian relief efforts for families affected by the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela late last month.
The donation was formally handed over to the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) by Massy Guyana Vice President and Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operating Officer, David Dharamraj, and Human Resources Manager, Sarah Deokaran-Mustapha. The supplies were received by the CDC’s Deputy Director General, Lieutenant Colonel Mark Thomas, for onward distribution to affected communities.
The contribution comes as relief efforts continue in Venezuela following the June 24 earthquakes, when a magnitude 7.2 foreshock was followed seconds later by a magnitude 7.5 mainshock centred in the Veroes municipality of Yaracuy State. The disaster caused widespread destruction, particularly in La Guaira and Caracas, claiming more than 1,700 lives, injuring thousands and leaving tens of thousands homeless.
According to Massy Guyana, the container includes essential food and household items intended to help meet the immediate needs of vulnerable families as they recover from the disaster.
“We empathise with the people of Venezuela at this challenging time. At Massy we believe that responsible business means standing with communities in moments of crisis,” Dharamraj said.
“The earthquake has placed tremendous strain on families in Venezuela, and we are pleased to support the Civil Defence Commission’s efforts to ensure that essential supplies reach those who need them most. This donation reflects our deep commitment to care, community, and regional solidarity.”
Massy Guyana said the donation forms part of broader humanitarian efforts to provide immediate assistance to those affected by the disaster.
The company also noted that the initiative underscores the importance of collaboration between the private sector and national disaster response agencies in delivering timely humanitarian assistance to communities in crisis.
Guyana has been contributing to regional relief efforts in the aftermath of the disaster through both government and private sector initiatives. Several local companies and organisations have partnered with the Civil Defence Commission to provide food, water and other essential supplies for shipment to earthquake-affected areas in neighbouring Venezuela.
