The Guyana Police Force hosted a two-day ‘Women in Law Enforcement Empowerment Summit 2023 – Gather. Collaborate. Grow.’ under the theme “Embrace Equity,” at the Police Officers’ Mess Annexe, Eve Leary.

The summit, held from Thursday, March 9- to Friday March 10, addressed competency areas such as human resource management, skills and behaviors, communication skills, team building, decision-making, gender disparities, emotional intelligence, and planning the path to entrepreneurship.

Billed as a launch the police, in a statement, said participants who collaborated to host the event were drawn from the Community Relations Department of the Guyana Police Force, members of the Diversity Committee of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The goals of the summit are to actively promote and support inclusivity while fostering open and honest dialogues, activities to improve one’s professional and personal abilities, and the overall growth and development of female law enforcement professionals.

The conference also sought to address difficulties faced by female law enforcement officers and aid  strengthening their resilience and responses, including exchanging personal and professional experiences.

Instructor led one-on-one counselling to encourage emotional intelligence development, while fostering closer working relationships between women in the public and private sectors with a focus on empowering women, was also a feature.

At the end of the conference, participants were expected to identify techniques to empower each other, discover tactics to thrive in their profession, and achieve their goals, among other benefits.

Minister of Governance and Parliamentary Affairs Hon. Gail Teixeira, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ms. Mae Toussaint Jr, acting Commissioner of Police Mr. Clifton Hicken, Director of Public Prosecutions Mrs. Shalimar Ali-Hack, among other officials attended the opening ceremony.
