Guyana celebrates its 53rd Republic Anniversary with a message of unity and cooperation from Chief Opposition Whip, Hon. M.P. Christopher Jones. In his Republic Day message, he emphasized the importance of the word “cooperative” in the official name of “our beautiful country” and its significance in nation building. “Co-operative, being the operative word,” said Chief Opposition Whip, Hon. M.P. Christopher Jones, “With that in mind let us take a moment to reflect on the struggles, sacrifices, and achievements of our great leaders and freedom fighters, who brought our country to this momentous point in its history. It is our responsibility to honor their legacy by upholding the values of equality, justice, and fraternity that they all held dear, and as a result included the word Co-operative in the official name of the State.”
Hon. M.P. Christopher Jones called on every citizen, including his government colleagues, to pledge to work towards building a better and brighter future for themselves and the nation. He urged everyone to come together as one to address the day-to-day problems citizens face, such as the cost of living, unemployment, and discrimination, “We have the power to shape the future of our nation, and we must exercise that power with wisdom and compassion, without fear of ill will,” said M.P. Jones, “Let us work towards building a society that is inclusive, just, and sustainable, where everyone has a voice, and every voice is heard.”
As Guyana celebrates its Republic Day, Chief Opposition Whip, Hon. M.P. Christopher Jones reminded the citizens of Guyana of the progress made since 23rd February 1970, when Guyana became a Republic. “Our Nation has come a long way since the 23rd of February 1970, and we have made significant progress in various fields. We are one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, and our resource wealth, pristine environment, and cultural achievements are recognized globally. However, we still have a long way to go to ensure that every citizen of our country has access to the necessities of a good life which is free from persecution by the apparatus of the State.
“I call on each and every one of my fellow citizens to pledge to work towards building a better and brighter future for ourselves and our nation, under the mantra of Co-operation,” said Chief Opposition Whip, Jones “Let us celebrate our diversity, our unity, and our resilience. Let us pledge to uphold the values that define us as a nation and as a people and work towards building a better and more inclusive future for generations to come. We have the power to shape the future of our nation, and we must exercise that power with wisdom and compassion, without fear of ill will. Let us work towards building a society that is inclusive, just, and sustainable, where everyone has a voice and every voice is heard.”
