CARICOM’s Shameful Silence as Cuba Stands in the Storm

Mr. Johnson clearly is missing the central issue related to the woeful plight of the Capital City and its citizens. The key issue known to all citizens is that like every other City or Town, there are two vital requirements.

One, proper management and two, enough money to provide the City or Town with a satisfactory service.

The fact is since the PPP assumed control of Government they have denied Georgetown Mayor and City Council. These two vitals, money and management. These are facts known for all and sundry, so what is Mr. Johnson writing about.

The example he gave of the flooding of the Charlestown/Albouystown areas is a case in point.I have checked and neither the Mayor nor the Engineers attached to the M&CC were consulted about the works purportedly carried out at the Princes Street Koker.

I don’t know what experience the Contractor had or what knowledge he has of structures such as the Princes Street and the other canals. To the best of my knowledge and Dear Editor, you can check not many persons alive and knowledgeable about sluices and kokers constructed centuries ago to protect this City, so like big bad bullies, the Minister and the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) proceeded to execute works resulting in the calamity last week.

What Johnson should ask, but which I now do respectfully ask, who did the estimates for these works and whether the contract provides for the recovery of money paid to this Contractor who is of an unknown entity. These are questions that the public should get answers to.

Yours sincerely,

Eric Moseley, M.S.
