Rickford Burke is an important figure in the fight against racial discrimination and political oppression of Black people and perceived non-PPP supporters in Guyana. As a Guyanese-American activist based in the United States, Burke has demonstrated a unique ability to hold the ruling People’s Progressive Party (PPP) government accountable and is among a small group of influential Guyanese who have the courage to ‘speak truth to power.’

One of the main reasons why Burke is important to the struggle for equal rights and justice for African Guyanese is because he is unafraid to challenge the PPP government and speak out against injustice. Burke has a long history of activism and has always been willing to stand up for what he believes in, even in the face of resistance and opposition. This has made him a powerful voice in the fight against racial discrimination and oppression in Guyana.

Another reason why Burke is important is because he is perceived to be connected to powerful Black politicians in the United States. Burke has built relationships with politicians at all levels of government, which gives him the ability to represent for disenfranchised Guyanese and to effectively advocate for change. This has helped him to raise awareness of the issues facing Black people in Guyana and to build support for their causes.

In addition to his connections to politicians, Burke is also able to galvanize and organize thousands of Guyanese in the diaspora. Burke has a strong network of supporters and activists who are committed to ending racial discrimination and oppression in Guyana. He is able to mobilize this network to take action and advocate for change, which has given him a great deal of influence and power.

Perhaps the PPP’s greatest fear is that Burke is able to influence the rank and file army and police ranks, who happen to be majority African Guyanese. Burke has a strong following among these groups, and his message of equality and justice resonates with them. If Burke is able to mobilize these groups and inspire them to resist PPP abuses, it could have a significant impact on the PPP’s ability to continue its campaign of discrimination and oppression.

As is common with Authoritarian governments, the PPP government of Guyana having no response to Rickford Burke has decided to abuse the Guyana justice system by orchestrating a false wanted bulletin for him.  Every Guyanese citizen should feel abject fear at the egregious abuse of power and the corruption of the police force by the ruling party.  Guyana is not a democracy and the citizens are quiet.  Rickford Burke is one of the few who are willing speak up and he presents a major problem for the PPP government.
