Wendy’s Pizza Parlour launched its Region Six (East Berbice – Corentyne) branch with a simple event at the La Caribe Diner on December 17th. At the event, Joshua Edward shared his educational journey and why the parlour was launched.

The business is currently located at 139 Bermine Scheme, New Amsterdam.

Joshua Edward and his mom, Wendy.

Joshua Edward said, “I once said in an interview that a go fund me page only solves one problem whereas a business solves multiple problems. Apart from God being the final decision-maker in my life, the idea to go into business is predicted upon the multiple problems that it solves.”

He added, “I grew up knowing that every month our light bill would cut. I grew up knowing I had one school shoe for school, church, and cricket. I grew up knowing that crayons were a luxury I could not have. I grew up understanding that I was only allowed hand-me-down textbooks from my older siblings no matter the edition. I grew up knowing that all we had in our family was love for one another. I grew up knowing that last year’s school clothes were this year’s school clothes also. I grew up knowing that I had to put my only underwear behind the fridge to have it dry for school in the morning. I grew up knowing that we would have to eat the same food cooked on Sunday on both Monday and Tuesday because we must “make it do”.

I give all these examples with issues for us to know that every single one of them is solved by Wendy’s Pizza Parlour. And my goal is to solve those same problems in the lives of others also.”

Wendy is Joshua’s mom, she is the person who prepares and makes the pizza.

Joshua further stated, “Wendy is the one who wakes up at 2 in the morning to begin baking pizza for me to go sell (also pushing to ensure that I get to class on time before covid) and to go stay up late hours cleaning up and taking care of me. Coupled that with the fact that my mom asked God for a name and He told her Wendy’s Pizza Parlour.”

He mentioned, “It’s all about her. It’s all about Wendy. Wendy is the backbone of this business. Her dream is coming to pass. I would be a lawyer and everything else I must be. She is the one who is having her dreams manifest. Her labour transcends even before my birth. I think she should get the pleasure of the name. She deserves it for her sacrifice.”

Hence the business was named “Wendy’s Pizza Parlour”.

This business was used to send Wendy’s children to school for many years.

At the launching, Miss Wendy stated that she has been making and baking pizza for the past 30+ years.

However, Joshua was no exception, as he assisted in delivering and selling pizzas from the tender age of eight years.

He added, “The difference between my siblings and I is that I wanted to further my education from an early age and I went for it.”

The pizza business has gotten Joshua his Bachelor of Laws, as he graduated from the University of Guyana last year.

It is paying for my master’s degree in law, and it will make him a lawyer in the near future.

“The pain of being barred from writing exams until I paid. The pain of literally knocking out in Giftland Mall in front of my friend because I hadn’t eaten anything since the previous afternoon. The pain of sleeping on campus because I had no money to travel home. That is what pushed us to birth Wendy’s Pizza Parlour,” said Joshua

“I remember it like it was yesterday. January 2020. Only $2000 GYD to our name, both mommy and I. And we set out to start this business. The money couldn’t even make two pans of pizza, but we did not care. We must start somewhere. Our goals MUST be achieved. Today, we have Wendy’s Pizza Parlour in two branches. That  truly, is the blessing for THE LORD,” added Joshua.

There were few challenges within Wendy’s Pizza Parlour which they cannot overcome.

Joshua added, “Every challenge is subject to the wisdom of the person it is challenging. That I learnt from a great man of God. So we seek after wisdom. That we may overcome every challenge.”

Their goal is to go global and have Wendy’s Pizza Parlour open for 24 hours, seven (7) to days a week.

Joshua stated that their expansion to Region 6 was a success.

“God has helped us as well as many precious people. The business was officially launched yesterday (17th December, 2022) and we are working with a robust pickup/delivery system here at Wendy’s Pizza Parlour,” Joshua stated.

He also said, “As it currently stands, I was forced to postpone my final year of Law school (where I should’ve gone to England in September) due to lack of sufficient finances.”

However, he believes that every disappointment is a blessing, this set back became a setup to pioneer and push Wendy’s Pizza Parlour all over Guyana, starting from region 6.

They are currently in the process of hiring more staff and would like to add some new people to our Wendy’s Pizza Parlour family.

In the future, Joshua aspires to provide many with scholarships, employment and other benefits whereas his mother’s joy is to make others happy.

He noted, “We would like to work together until there is a working Wendy’s Pizza Parlour ‘s system all throughout the world.”
