Additionally, a quantity of the first batch of Johnson and Johnson vaccines also arrived in Guyana on Monday on a Amerijet flight.

According to the Ministry of Health, to date 301, 368 persons across Guyana have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine while 153,840 persons have been fully vaccinated.

The Health Ministry has long maintained that the COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective.

It noted, however, that persons require two doses for the best protection against COVID-19. According to the Health Ministry, it takes two weeks for a person’s body to build up protection, following the final dose.
