Pensioner robbed of $187,000 at Leonora

A 72-year-old man was robbed of $187,000 in cash collected from the Leonora Post Office on Monday while he was entering a pharmacy on the Leonora Public Road, West Coast Demerara (WCD).

According to police report, the victim went to the post office on Monday at about 10:30 hours where he collected his NIS, Senior Citizen and Public Servant Pension, which amounted to $187,000 cash. He secured this in a black purse and then proceeded to a pharmacy opposite the Leonora Fire Station to purchase some medication.

As he was about to enter the said pharmacy, the suspect approached the victim from an unknown direction and grabbed the victim’s black purse containing the cash and made good his escape on foot.

The victim then ran behind him but the suspect entered a black motorcar, bearing registration number PSS2700 which was parked in front of the Leonora Fire Station on the public road, which then drove off in an eastern direction. Investigations are underway.
