Corentyne carpenter on attempted murder charge

Joshua Preme, a 23-year-old carpenter from Corentyne, Berbice was charged on Monday with the attempted murder of his former friend, Jagdeo ‘Chucks’ Ganesh, also Corentyne resident.

On  August 9, 2021, Chucks was riding his bicycle home when Preme confronted him with a dagger and an argument ensued. Preme then delt Ganesh several chops about his body, causing him to become severely injured. Following the incident, he made an escape on foot.

Ganesh was taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital by the police, where police registered a criminal case against his friend. Preme was arrested on August 20. A charge had now been laid under Section 103 (c) of the Criminal Law Offences Act Chapter 8:01.

The accused appeared at Albion Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate R. Singh where the charge was read to him and he was not required to plea. Bail was granted in the sum of $50,000 and the case was postponed to September 6 for report.
