Four men have been arrested over the discovery of guns and ammunition at Ituni, Upper Berbice, police have said.
The discovery was made on Wednesday. The four men in custody are listed as ages: 34, 23, 62 and 55.
According to police press release the suspects were traveling in an unlicensed tractor when they were stopped by ranks on patrol in the Ituni Station District who observed that the tractor did not carry a registration number.
Following a request for information by the ranks, a search of the tractor and its occupants began, resulting in the discovery of two 12-gauge shotguns at the side of the tractor and behind the driver’s seat respectively.
Additionally, eleven matching rounds were also discovered in the pockets of two of the suspects.
The men were arrested and taken to the Mackenzie Police Station where they remain in custody.
The firearms and ammunition have since been lodged as investigations continue.ontinue.
