Alicia Martin

Twenty-seven-year-old Alicia Martin – a Guyanese dancer, singer and song writer – has launched her first book on sex, lifestyle practices and purity.

“The inspiration behind this book is rooted in my life experiences, and struggles with impurities, and that of so many others. We often aim to thrive in various areas of life, which includes our careers, businesses, academics, ministry and many others. I believe that God wants us to also excel in our purity (mind, heart and body),” Martin told Village Voice Newspaper. The budding author said it is important to normalize conversations on sex and purity.

But who is Alicia Martin?

A Public Relations Officer (PRO) by profession, Martin is also the Director and Founder of Royalty Dance Ministries. A Christian, she is also known to be the visionary behind the ARISE Dance Workshop-ADW and host of a series titled, ‘The Vessel’. Additionally, the multitalented young woman is also a dance instructor, singer, song writer, and now an author.

“I am the holder of a Bachelor’s Degree and Diploma in Communication Studies from the University of Guyana. I also possess a Certificate and Diploma in Dance from the Institute of Creative Arts and the National School of Dance, and a Certificate in Ten Pageantry from the Eagles International Training Institute,” Martin shared.

Martin grew up in a Christian family with strong values and morals.

“As the only child for both parents, my parents taught me strive for excellence in all that I do, and the important of discipline as tool that applies to every area of one’s life,” she told this newspaper.

But she said her life has not been without challenges. “Along my journey as a Christian and believer in Christ, I have learnt many lessons, some of which includes commitment, perseverance and the essence of fulfilling and living a purpose driven life. I believe that every person has a divine purpose in life regardless of our religion, ethnicity and cultural background. There is divine purpose for each person, finding that thing, and doing it to the very best of our abilities is what brings fulfilment out of life,” she said.

She added: “I am what I am today because of the goodness and grace of Jesus Christ. With the support of my parents and other key persons in my life, I aim to impact the many lives that are attached to mine. It is my desire to see others grow, blossom and excel in their ministry, and every other area of their lives.”

The book – SLAYING in PURITY – has three main chapters – Sex, Lifestyle Practices and Purity. These areas are broken down into various categories in Chapter One Purity & Lifestyle Practices, Chapter Two Purity in Body and Chapter Three Slaying and Living Pure.

Though a first time write, Martin told this newspaper that it was not challenging to write the book. “My only constrain was time, since I wear many hats, and function in so many areas I believe that making out time to write was sometimes a challenge. Hence, I was determined to complete the book within the allotted time. I was able to do so with discipline and commitment,” she posited.

She said throughout the process of writing the book, her parents remained very supportive. With the launch of the book, Martin intends to conduct a series of conferences across Guyana, and beyond. “I’m tremendous excited to see the many lives that will be transformed and touch by this book and all its layers,” she said.
