At the Angoys Avenue Youth Friendly Space, 22-year-old  Andrew Henry from Region 6, is a beacon of hope for the youth from New Amsterdam Berbice and is making a profound difference in the lives of local youth, on his journey from volunteer to Learning Pod Coach of the Month.  Andrew’s achievements are a testament to his unwavering faith in god, his dedication, and his exceptional leadership.

“I am a very confident, bold, respectful, loving, kind, caring, understanding, hardworking, determined individual,” shares Andrew Henry, reflecting on his ethos. “I am a lover and follower of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, a child of God, and a purpose-driven individual.”

Andrew’s passion for service and love for children have been the driving forces behind his aspirations to become a mentor and community leader. “I love going to church, playing music on the drums and piano, and giving my services in whatever capacity that I can,” he affirms. ” Although Andrew is already a mentor to his young charges, he intends to one day become a youth and adult counselor, successful entrepreneur, leader, and a pioneer for youths of his generation.

His transition to the role of Learning Pod Coach was met with both surprise and determination. “At first, when I was chosen to become the coach for our STEM Pod, I was shocked but happy,” he recalls. “I was very confident in myself that I could bring forth change and elevate our pod to a higher level.”

Despite facing numerous challenges along the way, Andrew remained undeterred, with the steadfast support of his assistants, Miss Pinkey Auther and Rhonda Williams.

Alisha Koulen, Andrew’s manager, commends his exemplary dedication and perseverance in ensuring the success of the pod. “Andrew has displayed remarkable commitment and determination towards ensuring the pod had improved attendance and that the children were actively engaged in the lessons and robotics,” she remarks proudly. “He continues to dedicate his time and efforts to the youths in his community, and we are proud as always for his support.”

Andrew’s impact extends beyond the confines of his community, resonating with the broader mission of STEM Guyana to empower and inspire the next generation of innovators. “The community that I am placed in is a well-known area, which is commonly degraded by many individuals, but in actuality, it’s a very wonderful community,” Andrew emphasizes. “Since STEM Guyana has been presented to our space, the children in our community have benefited a lot from this program. It has enhanced a lot of students’ academics, thinking, and creativity skills.”

Asked for a comment, Director of STEMGuyana Karen Abrams stated that “As Andrew Henry continues to champion the cause of education and empowerment, his passion and dedication serve as a shining light of hope for the youth of Guyana. In honoring him as the Learning Pod Coach of the Month, we celebrate not only his achievements but also the transformative impact he has had on countless lives.”
