Police find firearms, ammunition at Port Mourant property

Ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) uncovered two 9mm pistols, three magazines, thirty-two 9mm live rounds and fifty twelve-gauge shotgun cartridges during a search of a businessman’s property in Port Mourant.

According to a police report, the discovery was made during an intelligence-led operation on February 11, 2021. A search was conducted on a house in Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice during which the guns and ammunition were discovered.

All occupants of the house were arrested which included the owner of the said property, a businessman of unknown age; a 28-year-old male of No. 73 Village Corentyne and a 39-year-old male of No. 1 Road, Corentyne. Meanwhile, the firearms and ammunition were lodged.

Additionally, the suspects Romeo Singh of Port Mourant; Deon Poonai of No. 73 Village and Sammy Kristamma of No.1 Road appeared at the Whim Magistrate’s Court on February 16, 2021.

They appeared before His Worship Rabindranauth Singh and were granted bail to the sum of $250,000 GYD each and are scheduled to return to court on March 25, 2021.
