Cummingslodge pensioner dies in fire of unknown origin

A 63-year-old pensioned was on Monday burnt to death after the fire of unknown origin destroyed the 570 10th

The pensioner has been identified as Lionel Kyte.

According to reports, the fire occurred at 16:20h and quickly destroyed the flat, wooden house.

Kyte reportedly lived alone was said to be ill at the time.

Police said that the landlord observed smoke emanating from the house and on inspection discovered that the main door to the house was locked.

“Having made this observation, she raised an alarm after which neighbors formed a bucket brigade in effort to extinguish the fire but in vain. Shortly after, a Fire Tender from the Campbellville Fire Station arrived at the scene, went into action and extinguished the fire,” Police said in a statement.

Kyte’s badly burnt body was discovered lying in the kitchen. He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was pronounced dead.

A post mortem examination is scheduled.

Police are investigating.
