Armed bandits rob Essequibo pensioner of cash and jewellery

An 83-year-old pensioner of Onderneeming, Sand Pitt, Essequibo Coast (Region Two) was on Friday robbed of two gold rings valued $36,000 and $150,000 cash when two armed men stormed her home.

The pensioner has been identified as Parbattie Sooklall. The incident occurred at about 01:20h.
According to reports, two labourers Ricardo France (52) and Richard Patterson (46) who also reside at the Onderneeming, Sand Pitt location were imbibing when the western door of the premises was opened. France and Patterson, who are relatives, were approached by two males both wearing face masks. One of the men was armed with a hand gun while the other with a cutlass.

“The male with the cutlass began to assault both of the men while the suspect with the firearm then proceeded to the victim’s room, and demanded the two gold rings and money,” Police said in a statement.

Sooklall handed over the cash and jewellery to the armed bandits who then made good their escape.
Investigations are ongoing.
