“Persons might not appreciate the value of this, but if you’re a severe COVID-19 patient and you’re lying on one of those hospital beds and you need assistance in breathing, then these machines can be the difference between life and death and that is why it’s so important to ensure that we have them in our hospitals.”

The Minister expressed gratitude to the Mexican Government and indicated that the equipment will be put to use.
Meanwhile, Mexican Ambassador to Guyana, His Excellency, Jose Omar Hurtado Contreras, said his Government stands in solidarity with Guyana during this difficult period.

“Today, on behalf of the people of Mexico, please accept these two ventilators to attend to the COVID-19 emergencies, donated within the framework of the scientific and technical cooperation agreement that the two countries have.”

The Ambassador also committed to provide training for health officials in the use of the equipment.
In response, Minister Anthony thanked Ambassador Contreras for the donations and pledged to ensure health workers take full advantage of the training opportunity.

Guyana and Mexico share some 47 years of good diplomatic relations.
