The Palms Geriatric Home can now accommodate 240 residents following the completion of renovations, Director of Social Services, Ministry of Human Services and Social Security, Whentworth Tanner disclosed.

Tanner told the Department of Public Information (DPI) that as part of the renovations, two new wards were completed thereby increasing the Palms’ capacity by 50.

“We were operating at about 170 persons because of the two wards not being operable. Those two wards combined, especially in keeping with our COVID-19 guidelines can accommodate 25 persons a piece, so our capacity as increased by 50,” he said.

Tanner said the Palms continues to implement the guidelines to ensure that all residents remain safe.

The rehabilitation works at the Palms were completed in December 2020.

Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr. Vindhya Persaud, during an interview with the DPI in November, had said the Ministry intends to ensure that the facility can properly accommodate all residents.
