90-year-old man perishes in Diamond fire

A 90-year-old man died in a fire on Thursday morning in the Diamond Housing Scheme on East Bank of Demerara.

Dead is Rupert Williams.
When contacted by Village Voice News, Fire Chief Marlon said that fire fighters are still on the scene conducting their investigation. He said thus far reports indicate that the fire occurred at 17th Street, Diamond Housing Scheme.

“A 90-year-old male perished but we have not been able to confirm all the details as yet because the units are still on the scene gathering the facts,” Gentle said.

Details of the fire are sketchy at the moment, however, Gentle said four persons were reportedly at home at the time but the elderly man did not make it out alive.
