Two dead in Corentyne smash-up

Two men have died following a horrific accident on the Line Path, Public Road, Corentyne Berbice Saturday evening.

The men who died men have been identified as 26-year-old Thurman Mehnauth of Lot 12 Line Path E
He was the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the accident motor, with registration number  PLL 4090. Also dead is an occupant of the said vehicle 38-year-old Nimrod Persaud  of 29 Line Path D. The driver of the other motorcar PYY 7581 Sheik Mahmood a businessman of Number 76 Village sustained injuries and is hispitalised.

Police reported that the enquires disclosed M/ Car PYY 7581 was proceeding in a northerly direction along the western drive lane while M/Car PLL 4090 was proceeding south along the eastern drive lane when the driver alleged that as he was in the process of passing M/Car PLL 4090 suddenly swerved into his lane and collided head on. As result of the collision both drivers and the occupant received injuries about their bodies they were all taken to Skeldon Public Hospital where they were seen and examined by the doctor on duty who pronounced the driver of M/Car PLL 4090 and the occupant dead while the driver of M/Car PYY 7581 is presently receiving medical attention in the accident and emergency unit. His condition is regarded as stable. Breathalyzer test conducted on the driver of M/Car PYY 7581 same read zero. Both vehicles have been extensively damaged, police said.
