Several in custody for drug, gun possession

Just days before Christmas some residents of Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) have landed themselves in hot water after being found with varying amounts of narcotics, arms and ammunition.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Guyana Police Force said a squad of police ranks led by a superintendent, conducted searched in the East Berbice-Corentyne District on Wednesday and found the illicit items in the possession of several persons.

Searches were conducted along Saint John and Pope Streets in New Amsterdam, and also along Sheet Anchor and New Street Cumberland, East Canje, Berbice.

“A total quantity of 63.5 grams of cannabis was found and one .32 Beretta pistol along with 33 live .32 rounds recovered,” the police said.
