Prisoners in collusion with other persons continue to evade security measures instituted by the Guyana Prison Service to guard against the entry of illicit items in prisons. On Wednesday, a Joint Services Operation conducted at the New Amsterdam Prison unearthed a range of illicit items despite enhanced security measures.
The Guyana Police Force, in a statement said the Joint Services Operation was conducted between 05:30hrs and 10:00hrs on Wednesday in the male and female dormitories of the New Amsterdam Prison.
“During the search the following items were found; 1,045 grams of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis, 15 Cell phones, several lighters, wires, earpiece, phone chargers, a quantity of razor blades, 3 mirrors and a tattoo machine,” the police said.
Similar discoveries were also made at the Lusignan Prison in recent times.
