The Guyana Police Force (GPF) is investigating an alleged case of trafficking in narcotics within the Lusignan Prison by prison officers.

On Wednesday, a black plastic bag containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis, was found stashed under a sink in a room occupied by prison officers. According to the police, the discovery was made during a random search.
It was explained that between 22:00hrs and 22:15hrs on Wednesday, prison officials of the Georgetown Prison (B) Lusignan, conducted a search of the Lusignan Prison Barracks at the Cecil Kilkenny Training College at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara.
