Intruder killed by Timehri North businessman

A 26-year-old man of Alliance Road squatting area, Timehri, East Bank Demerara (EBD) was on Monday morning shot dead by Baldeo Rampersaud, a Timehri North businessman after he enter the man’s house.

According to a police report, at about 02:30h, Rampersaud, 42, was resting with his wife when he was awaken by a strange noise coming from his bedroom door. The man made checks and discovered that his door knob was moving, an indication that someone was trying to enter his bedroom.
The businessman armed himself with is licenced shotgun which was loaded with three cartridges and opened his bedroom door. He saw a shadow running outside and gave chase. A male was seen going through his kitchen door.

Rampersaud told investigators that when the intruder saw him, he gestured as if he was reaching for a weapon. The businessman said he confronted the man who tried to disarm him. A scuffle ensued and a shot was fired.

The intruder then ran into the businessman’s dining room and continued to gesture. This caused the businessman to fire another shot. The intruder hid behind a wall and hid in room. Rampersaud made checks and after hearing a strange sound coming from being the wall he fired another shot which passed through the wooden all and hit the intruder.

The intruder fell to the floor in a horizontal position trembling after which he became motionless. His body was taken Georgetown Public hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.
Investigations are ongoing.
