Gov’t relaxes COVID-19 curfew

The Government of Guyana on Friday announced that the national curfew has been relaxed along with other COVID-19 measures.
In an extraordinary edition of the Official Gazette published on Friday, Government said that with effect from November 1, 2020 to November 30, 2020 the curfew imposed across the country shall be between the hours of 10:30pm and 4:00am.

Additionally, the Notice said that schools may be re-opened by the Ministry of Education subject to compliance with the measures under the Notice and the Ministry of Education may issue guidelines or give any instruction to minimize the risk of COVID-19 being spread in schools.
Gyms or fitness centre may be opened but only at 50 per cent capacity of the building and by appointments only to minimize the risk and spread of COVID-19.

The Notice said that between the hours of 4:00am and 9:30pm, banks and other financial institutions, remittance services, markets, supermarkets, grocery shops, gas stations, postal and shipping services, beauty and barbershops, hardware, plumbing and electrical stores, clothing, shoes and book stores, operation, inspection, repair and maintenance of essential services including vehicles, vessels and aircraft and traffic signal maintenance shall remain open.
Further, the amended COVID-19 measures note that food services and restaurants shall be opened only for delivery, drive-thru, curb-side pickup and take away services between the hours of 4:00am and 9:30pm. Indoor and buffet dining remains prohibited while outdoor dining at a restaurant shall only be permitted between the hours of 4:00am and 9:30pm and where tables are spaced six feet apart from each other and no more than four persons are seated at one table and at least three feet apart.

The Notice states too that non-essential travel to Regions 1 and 9 are still restricted.
Guyana recorded 42 new cases of COVID-19 and its 124th COVID death. There have been 42 deaths recorded so far for the month of October.
