A 16-year-old has been arrested for the murder of Bibi Ramjit, the 86-year-old La Grange Old Road, West Bank Demerara (WBD) businesswoman, the Guyana Police Force said on Tuesday.

The woman was found murdered on Sunday at her home.
Police in a statement said that enquiries disclosed that Ramjit lived alone in a two story wooden and concrete structure where the upper flat is used as the living quarters, while the lower flat houses a grocery shop.

On Sunday about 15:00hrs, a 59-year-old farmer of Schoonard, West Bank Demerara, went to purchase eddoes from the shop, however she did not have change for his five thousand dollar note so he collected the eddoes and told the woman he will drop her money later and went away.
About 17:00hrs on the said date the male returned to the shop where he observed the shop door and the back door to the upper flat wide open. He called out several times for the deceased but got no response. As a result, he proceeded to the upper flat of the house where he looked into a bedroom and saw the deceased lying motionless on her back on her bed with her feet and hands tied.

He immediately raised an alarm and the police were summoned to the scene. On arrival the entire scene was processed and the body was checked for any marks of violence but none was seen, several persons in the area were questioned but no useful information was received.
Police said the body was then escorted to West Demerara Regional Hospital, where it was pronounced dead by a Doctor duty and further escorted to the Ezekiel Funeral Parlor awaiting a Post Mortem Examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
